What you missed... Get the story on manufacturing in SE
Michigan
June 17, 2008 Macomb Community College, Warren, MI
Dr. Daniel Luria, Research Director at the Michigan Manufacturing
Technology Center (MMTC), talked about the current state of manufacturing in
the US and Michigan.
He gave an overview of the US and Michigan
economies, with an emphasis on the auto industry, then talked about engineer and
skilled trades hiring during the next five years in light of buyouts and lower
new-hire labor rates in the Big Three.
SME Chapter One, Macomb
Community College and SME
Student Chapter S071 co-sponsored the event.
SME Student Chapter takes on Auto Show SME/Macomb
Student Chapter S071 and the staff of Macomb Community College
made a great showing on Automotive Education Day at this year’s Detroit
North American International Auto Show. Along with
faculty advisor Harry J. Buhalis, the student chapter hosted a booth with information
about the many programs, resources and opportunities offered at Macomb Community
College and the Society of Manufacturing
Engineers. To make things a little more
exciting, the staff and student chapter raffled a Nintendo Wii. SME Chapter One applauds the officers of S071
and the educators at MCC for their initiative.

Chapter bulletins – no more paper Toolcast,
the SME Chapter One bulletin, will move from paper to electronic format
in 2008. This will save the chapter the cost of paper, printing and
postage, and shorten the publication lead time. To receive it, however,
your preferred e-mail address must be on file in your membership
records. Just go to the SME website, www.sme.org, and click, “update my
membership.” If you choose not to get e-mailed bulletins, be sure to
check the Chapter One website, www.smechapter1.org, for the latest news.
